DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Native By Design\, LLC presentation by Lauren Hubbard\, Derwood resident\, Master Gardener\, and Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional\, on “Native Plants for Sun and Shade”. Native plants make your garden beautiful and bring in the bees and butterflies too! Learn which plants native to our region grow best here. \nAbout Native by Design\, LLC: \nNative by Design\, LLC\, founded by Dr. Lauren Hubbard\, provides landscape design\, consultation and project management with a focus on sustainable approaches that will provide beauty\, support the ecosystem and reduce your long-term maintenance needs. \nAbout the Speaker: \nLaura Hubbard works with not-for-profits\, homeowners and municipalities to support their efforts to transition to sustainable landscaping practices. Her services include site assessment\, project planning and design\, educational workshops and community outreach\, and project management. She places an emphasis on approaches that are both beautiful and functional while also reducing long term maintenance\, creating sustainable landscapes that serve the client and the environment. \nWith a particular interest in the preservation of genetic diversity in native plant populations\, Lauren has served on the founding board of the Long Island Native Plant Initiative and has launched a project called Butterfly Bandwagon to promote the use of native plants in home landscaping. She has worked with Howard Ecoworks\, Muddy Branch Alliance and Urban Ecosystem Restorations providing program support\, community outreach\, and grant writing and management services that support ecological restoration and stewardship. \nShe has extensive experience as a project manager\, providing grant writing and implementation services to support education and environmental issues. Dr. Hubbard has a Ph.D. in Plant Biology and has used her advanced training to support efforts to maintain biodiversity within our plant communities. She is a Master Gardener\, Weed Warrior\, a certified Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional\, a certified Landscape-For-Life Trainer\, and a board member of the Maryland Native Plant Society.
